Award helps Utica University and Rome City School District take Esports to new level

“This partnership creates an opportunity to bring students to campus for an experience that blends competition, collaboration, and career exploration.”
Utica University and the Rome City school District are teaming up to bring new pathways to connected educational and career opportunities through the burgeoning world of Esports.
The joint venture is made possible through a grant awarded to Connect Ed NY from the UpMobility Foundation to support Esports programming and youth development for the Rome School District through partnering with Utica University.
Esports are rapidly growing among colleges and universities across North America, providing the same opportunities for teamwork, sportsmanship, and strategizing as traditional sports.
The collaboration will provide middle and high school students from the Rome City School District with an engaging, hands-on experience in competitive gaming while introducing them to the academic and career pathways connected to e-sports, including communication, strategic thinking, teamwork, digital media, and emerging technology fields.
Camp participants will have the opportunity to use university facilities, connect with mentors, and develop both technical and leadership skills in a supportive environment.
Utica University’s Esports program operates out of the brand new, state-of-the-art facility located on the campus’ Bull Hall, allowing Utica students to compete against some of the top Esports teams in the nation.
“This partnership creates an opportunity to bring students to campus for an experience that blends competition, collaboration, and career exploration,” says Utica University Dean of Students Richard Racioppa. “E-sports is more than gaming—it fosters teamwork, critical thinking, and digital literacy. We’re proud to work alongside Rome City School District to provide programming that benefits students, strengthens community ties, and highlights the innovative opportunities available at Utica University.”
The partnership represents a meaningful investment in the local community, allowing Utica University to expand access to its innovative programming while building stronger connections with area students and families and highlighting the top-tier academic programs available to them right in their own backyard.
