Cybersecurity

Information Assurance Concentration

Protect and defend information and information systems.

Perhaps the most critical and strategic business resource for any organization is its information and today, Information Systems are more vulnerable than ever from miscreants across the globe who are attacking them for pleasure, political purposes, or to gain business advantages.

While, Cybercrime Investigations and Forensics professionals track down and prosecute criminals perpetrating internet crimes, Information Assurance (IA) professionals work to stop those elusive criminals from committing crimes in the first place.

Information Assurance protects an organization’s information, as well as the facilities, systems, and networks that process, store, and transmit that information.  Protecting information is vital.  Sometimes even more vital than protecting other organizational resources, such as money or personnel.

A Career in Information Assurance Makes a Difference

Information Assurance involves detecting, reporting, and responding to cyber threats; making encryption codes to pass information between systems securely; and embedding security measures directly into the emerging Global Information Grid.  It can also include building secure audio and video communications equipment, making tamper protection products, providing trusted microelectronics solutions, and more.

IA is an interesting and rewarding profession that draws from multiple fields, including fraud examination, forensic science, military science, management science, systems engineering, security engineering, and criminology, in addition to computer science.

What you will learn in our Information Assurance online program
