Socialization to Professional Nursing

Build your foundation for a career as a baccalaureate-prepared professional Nurse.

In this course, you’ll review core competencies in the nursing profession from the Institute of Medicine. More specifically, you’ll examine the roles within a health care team, with emphasis on the importance of patient-centered care, inter-professional collaboration and teamwork, and evidence-based practice.

A key responsibility of a nurse is to communicate well. Through a variety of writing-intensive assignments, you’ll improve your written, verbal and non-verbal communication methods, and develop your scholarly writing skills. You’ll also learn how to apply concepts of patient-centered care to professional practice.

Beyond examining team dynamics and evidence-based practice, you’ll be introduced to informatics, and analyze how technology is used to prevent errors and improve care.
