Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

What began as a casual conversation between professionals in 1985 evolved into the world’s largest anti-fraud organization. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) exists to serve as the resource for the certified fraud examiner (CFE) credential. Their website states their mission is “to reduce the incidence of fraud and white-collar crime and to assist the membership in fraud detection and deterrence.”1

Through the ACFE, Utica students and graduates can pursue the CFE credential, which will further help them develop anti-fraud programs and work as valuable assets in fighting fraud in its most dangerous forms.

Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Membership Types

The ACFE offers four distinct membership types:

Associate

The basic membership is required to apply for the CFE credential, and it offers a range of discounts.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

This is the membership level achieved when members pass the CFE exam. It connects members to a broad network of experts.

Educator

The educator membership is for those who teach and provides videos, workbooks, and other resources to share with students.

Student

This is the perfect membership level for full-time students.

Requirements for the ACFE

Various ACFE membership types have different requirements. For example, to become a CFE, an applicant must meet five requirements:1

  • Enroll in an associate membership to the ACFE
  • Earn 50 qualifying points for CFE exam eligibility
  • Have at least two years of fraud-related work experience
  • Complete the CFE exam
  • Agree to abide by the ACFE code of professional ethics

Other membership levels may require verification of teacher employment or student enrollment.
