More Than One-Third of Our Online RN to BSN Students Are Referrals
As healthcare has become increasingly complex, the demand for highly skilled and highly educated nurses in America has increased. Although there are multiple paths to a nursing career, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) is recognized as the standard educational foundation for nursing practice. If you are a registered nurse, earning your BSN is the next step in advancing your nursing career and preparing you to become a leader in the field.
Both the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice (NACNEP) recognize the BSN degree as the minimal educational requirement for entry into practice. The Institute of Medicine has also recommended that 80% or more of practicing nurses have a baccalaureate degree in nursing by the year 2020. If you are a registered nurse, earning your BSN can advance your nursing career and prepare you to become a leader in the field.

Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of concepts through relevant experiential learning and practice experiences that foster patient-centered care, inter-professional teams, evidence-based practice, informatics, clinical reasoning/critical thinking, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and practice across the life span in an ever-changing and complex health care environment — all of which are aligned to the Baccalaureate Essentials requirements determined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (Expectations for Practice Experiences in the RN to Baccalaureate Curriculum, 2012).
Keep working as you obtain new skills — our program is carefully aligned to allow you to learn online while you continue to work and balance family or other responsibilities. You can complete the online RN to BSN program in 3 years or less (depending on case load and transfer nursing credits), during which time you can continue to practice as a registered nurse.
Admission to the online RN to BS in Nursing degree (RN-BSN) requires an associate degree in nursing (ADN) from a regionally accredited program. Students must also have an active RN license or become licensed within 6 months of starting the program. If you will be seeking your RN license after enrolling, be sure to register with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing as soon as possible so you can sign up to take the NCLEX-RN exam.
Here is a brief application checklist for students interested in enrolling in the online RN-BSN program. Students who majored in a field other than nursing and desire to transition into a nursing career may achieve their BSN via these Utica College Nursing Programs.
Preparing Nurses to Grow Professionally
Graduates of our online RN- BS in Nursing (RN-BSN) program have the added preparation to assume nursing career roles that demand critical-thinking, decision-making, communication and leadership skills. BSN-prepared nurses are beginning to fill more roles in nursing, especially in some of the highest paying nurse specialties that now require a bachelor's degree (nurse research, orthopedic nursing, neonatal nursing, etc.). In addition, BSN-prepared nurses typically make more money than ADN or diploma nurses. PayScale reports that the median BSN nurse salary is $62,6741; for ADN nurses, the median salary is $50,5652.
“If we treat our students the way they are expected to treat their patients, and we equip them with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to grow in every way, that translates into advancement of their nursing practice."
- Annette Becker, DNS, RN, Program Director
Students enrolled in the online RN-BSN benefit from a campus program that has been delivering high-quality nursing education for more than 25 years. Students are taught by the same highly qualified faculty that teach on campus, and will earn the same prestigious credential that campus students earn. Utica's online RN-BSN program is approved by the New York State Education Department and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). What Our Students are Saying
"This RN-BSN program has allowed me to seek out jobs with employers that are more prone to hiring only BSN's. I was able to go from a small hospital/medical surgical unit to a large hospital intensive care unit. It also is a stepping stone to pursuing further education and accreditation."
– Desiree Monaco, RN, St. Luke's Hospital
"Utica's RN-BSN program has helped me to build upon my knowledge base, take better care of my patients, and build confidence. I have been a nurse for almost eight years and would like to move up to a clinician or nurse manager and will be able to do so after completing this program."
– Stacey Lee Kitterie, RN, Stoneybrook University Medical Center
